The Supreme Court steels its weapons

It will have its role to play in the electoral consultations (Legislative and Regional) that the Togolese are preparing to experience at the end of this first quarter of 2024 at the latest. It is the Supreme Court. Since last Monday, the members of the administrative chamber of this Court have been in session to reread the texts relating to the disputes, in Kpalimé (120 km north of Lomé).
It is indicated that the work which ends this Thursday, January 25, 2024 aims to deepen the knowledge of the participants on the disputes which may arise during the elections and to harmonize the points of view on the interpretation of the electoral code. Concretely, this involves preparing the appropriate legal arsenal and designing a dispute management guide.
In the words of the president of the administrative chamber of the Supreme Court, Akpénè Djidonou, “any election is likely to experience organizational difficulties which could lead the protagonists to arbitration by the judge”. And to continue, “with regard to the regionals which are organized this year for the first time, there is no doubt that we expect misunderstandings which could lead the judge to rule”.
For information, the administrative chamber of the Supreme Court is competent to hear disputes and the proclamation of the final results of local and regional elections, according to the provisions of the electoral code in force.
