The Savanes will vote in a state of emergency

This is the result of the decision of Togolese deputies to grant a new extension of the state of emergency to the government.

In force since June 2022 in the Savanes Region, the state of emergency is therefore extended by 12 months, given that the security threat remains persistent in the far north of the country.
The bill which was submitted to this effect to the National Assembly also authorizes the government to adapt security strategies to the evolution of the threat, while maintaining public order and the vigilance of the populations.

To justify such an option, the National Representation defends itself, indicating that “this authorization is important for the protection of citizens, their property, and the strengthening of national security, especially in the context of the next legislative and regional elections on April 20 2024.”

Before this new extension, it should be noted that the state of emergency in force in the Savanes since June 2022 had already been extended once, to April 2023.

With this new extension, needless to say that the Togolese of the Savanes region will go to the polls for the Legislative and Regional elections on April 20, in a state of emergency.
