“The general interest remains engraved in our DNA”, FDR !

This is indeed a reformed assertion which well describes the vision and political action of the FDR party (Democratic Forces for the Republic) and its national president. At least this is what we can understand in a projection and analysis of the situation made last Sunday on the sidelines of a ceremony to install a federation office of this party in Greater Lomé. National Vice-President and Coordinator of Greater Lomé, the Mayor of the Municipality of Golfe 2, Dr James Amaglo, since it is him who is in question, in a response to requests from the press on the posture adopted until here by their political party which continues to invite opposition political actors to unity of action, has made it clear that this is the position is not a coincidence and has always been the one adopted by this party and its leader since its creation in 2016.

“In the name of activists, and in the name of certain personalities of the country, of the party, he (the national president, Me Paul Dodji Apévon, editor’s note) is always solicited because we know that in his veins, in his DNA, the obligation , it is the general interest, and for the general interest, we must be able to renounce ourselves and ensure that we are together. The path is there because when we were born as FDR, we left the Group of 6, we went to the C14, and even before the legislative elections we made a solemn declaration in Afagnan where we requested that the parties opposition politicians agree to nominate a candidate who can be from civil society, from the diaspora to silence our egos, our conflicts of interest and others. It has gained momentum, Mgr Kpodzro has also seized it because it is his deep conviction, we have worked on it, but unfortunately, the end we know, it is because there are still the egos, double standards, false behavior which meant that the opportunity in which the people believed did not bear fruit,” he declared. We can therefore deduce that this party, despite the failures of certain previous actions, continues to believe in a union of action for this Togolese opposition, especially that convinced and committed to change or alternation at the head of the country.

Despite the setbacks, Dr. Amaglo, like other FDR supporters, reassures of one thing, "we will not give up, we are learning as Mandela said, and I believe that by the date set by the regime in place, we have time and by the grace of God, something interesting for this people will happen to motivate them so that we win in the interest of the entire population. We must therefore do everything so that they know that we are a way out for them.”

Present in local communities with Mayors and Deputy Mayors as well as municipal councilors, following the 2019 local elections, the party intends to interfere even more in the management of the country and serve as a valid counterweight for decisions which would not benefit the populations and be a force of proposal and a better response for change in Togo.
