For the occasion, the leaders of the Les Démocrates party of Nicodème Ayao Habia, the national president, were in front of the press this Saturday, November 4, 2023, to take a new look at political life in Togo.

While at the time their leader demanded freedom and the release of political detainees and his act of hunger strike was described as a "comedy" by those in power, the party is surprised that today, a thousand prisoners have been released while political prisoners and prisoners of opinion, including, according to the party, Jean-Paul Oumolou, Aziz Goma, Togbui Dodji Akakpo and Kpatcha Gnassingbé, still remain in prison in Lomé and Kara.

Also, Habia’s party is offended by this government continuing to prevent "at this time the political activities of the opposition and thus maintaining a worrying silence" at a time when "the RPT/UNIR is freely carrying out its comings and goings comes politically across the entire national territory. Something the party describes as “unfair”. Likewise, Habia’s co-partisans do not look favorably on the pan-Africanist mantle with which the power in Lomé is covering itself today.

As for the terrorism which is shaking several countries in the sub-region and northern Togo, the Democrats accuse "foreign powers who aim to relocate their troops from the Sahel to the Gulf of Guinea, in particular the coastal countries including Togo, our step ".

In view of all the above and on this day of commemoration of the heroic act of their president, the Democrats invite all socio-political actors internally and externally to work to push the tenant of the Togolese marina, Faure Gnassingbé, "at the transition at the end of which, he will no longer be a candidate", but in the opposite case and in the event of opacity encourage the people to take responsibility based on the fundamental law, with the FAT and God as witnesses to give hope to the Togolese.

What about the elections ? The Democrats party wants to be clear, “we are not saying that we are against the elections. But that there are the minimum conditions before going there”.
