The Constitutional Court wants to “anticipate events”

This Judge of last resort, the Constitutional Court in matters of elections in Togo, brings together its members from March 4 to 8, 2024 in Kpalimé for an internal rereading of its texts. The work of this meeting, which brings together the members and administrative staff of this high court, is held around the theme, “Rereading the texts as a prelude to the management of electoral disputes (legislative elections of April 20, 2024)”.

In the words of the interim president of this institution, Kouami Amados-Djoko, at the opening of the work, “all political actors, civil society, as well as all Togolese expect from us a high spirit in the management of electoral disputes”. Reason why, he added, to meet this requirement, the Constitutional Court “is obliged to anticipate events”. Still according to him, “if we manage to harmonize our points of view on the texts which govern the deadlines in this seminar, we will have won the first battle”.

In terms of objectives, it is indicated that this Kpalimé seminar which is being held a few weeks before the legislative elections, intends to review the electoral texts and to anticipate possible situations of protest likely to arise on occasion. legislative elections of April 20, 2024 ; and also, to have the wise men of this institution agree on the interpretation of the various provisions relating to this ballot.
