The first cases were detected according to information from the Minister of Health, in Kéran and in Oti-Sud.

“Cases of measles have been confirmed in several health districts of the country”, in Kéran and Oti-Sud, placed in a state of epidemic, this was indicated last Friday by the Minister of Health, Prof. Mustafa Mijiyawa.

Faced with such a situation, steps are being taken. We note that investigations are already open to search for and effectively manage possible new cases. Also, we announce the strengthening of epidemiological monitoring and early warning, raising awareness among populations about routine anti-measles vaccination and the actions to be taken, as well as additional measures taken.

For his part, Minister Mijiyawa made it clear that “Measles is a disease preventable by vaccination. The measles vaccine is safe, effective and remains the main means of prevention to this day.” His way of inviting populations to be more vigilant and to adopt basic barrier behaviors (regularly wash their hands with soap and water or with a hydroalcoholic solution, clean and disinfect surfaces, avoid touching their hands). eyes, nose, mouth, cover your mouth and nose with the crook of your elbow or with a tissue in case of coughing).

It should be remembered that measles is a highly contagious viral infectious disease mainly affecting children. It is transmitted by inhaling droplets of secretion (nasal or throat) emitted by an infected person. It very often manifests itself with a high fever, a runny nose, red eyes and a rash.

“The sooner the patient is treated, the more likely he is to recover,” informs the minister, who advises people to immediately go to the nearest health center as soon as they notice certain signs of the disease.
