Explanations, frustrations, desire for permanent exchanges !

It is in summary of the outcome of the discussions that there was yesterday on Tuesday between the Minister of Higher Education, Prof Watéba Ihou and the researchers and the administrative staff of the UL (University of Lomé). Discussions that took place following the teaching-researchers’ mood movement and UL administrative staff last week. During the latter’s sit-in, they claimed, among other things, the payment of the balance of salary increases of 5 % and 10 % granted by the Head of State in 2020 and 2022 to teachers, to the administrative and technical staff of Public universities of Togo (UPT) just to allow them to face the high cost of life.
Exchanges, he returned to the explanations of the competent authorities that the public universities of Togo are not taken into account by the measures claimed. However, the Minister would have urged the university community to think together with him, in order to find appropriate solutions.
The teacher-researchers and the administrative staff therefore did not hide their frustration, but were able to hear the arguments as to the difficulties linked to the application of the measures announced by the Head of State.
The parties wanted these continual meetings to find lasting solutions to the various concerns that can occur in the academic world in Togo.
